A migraine diary that looks a day or two back.

Bucket is an iPhone migraine diary. Log fragrance, food, alcohol and caffeine; Bucket adds your sleep from Apple Health and the day’s weather and pressure for you. The bucket shows how a few small things add up when they land close together. Over time it finds what tends to come before your migraines, including things a day or two earlier.

What people with migraine often log.

What they met and did

  • Fragrance and strong smells

  • Alcohol, caffeine and food

  • Weather and pressure changes

  • Short nights, stress, your period

  • Migraine medicines, taken or missed

How they felt

  • Migraine

  • Headache

  • Sensitivity to light or sound

  • Brain fog

Examples of what people often track — not a list of causes or symptoms to look for. You choose what to log, and Bucket learns your own pattern.

Asked in migraine’s own words.

When you set Bucket up, you choose every condition you have or think you might — diagnosed, suspected or still exploring. Each brings a question of its own, in words people with it use. For migraine it’s “Head” — clear, pressure or pounding. Bucket doesn’t ask it every day, only now and then, after a heavy spell.

Your entries fill a bucket that drains over the following days, so you can see the load building. Once there’s enough in your diary, Bucket shows what tends to come before your bad days — the same day or up to about three and a half days earlier.

An example of how Bucket words a pattern. It describes what tends to follow what — never what caused it.

Your bucket went near the top. Two taps help Bucket learn what matters for you — skip either.

Drawn from the app. Bucket asks when your bucket nears the top, or a couple of hours after a symptom at its worst — never as a notification. The two questions change each time: it asks what it knows least about.

What Bucket does for migraine.

  • Pressure changes, added for you

Bucket checks air pressure, heat, pollen and air quality for your rough area. A quick fall in pressure adds to the bucket, as poor air or high pollen do.

  • Several small things, added together

A short night, a glass of wine and a strong perfume might each be fine. Bucket shows what happens when they land close together.

  • The days before a period

After a poor night, when you’re stressed or unwell, or in the days before a period, Bucket counts everything for more — never more than two and a half times as much.

  • Medicines, dose by dose

Each dose recorded as taken, missed or skipped, with gentle reminders for scheduled medicines, so your summary can say how often you took what.

  • Sleep from Apple Health

Sleep, steps and heart data are read from Apple Health and stay on your device, so the patterns have a steady baseline without extra logging.

Questions about Bucket and migraine

Is there a migraine diary that tracks fragrance, weather and sleep?

Yes — Bucket is an iPhone migraine diary that tracks fragrance, alcohol, caffeine and food alongside sleep from Apple Health and the day’s weather and pressure changes, which it adds for you. It looks for what tends to come before a migraine, including things a day or two earlier, and shows how several small things add up.

Can Bucket track weather and pressure for migraine?

Yes, without you typing anything. Bucket adds the day’s pressure, heat, pollen and air quality for your rough area, counts a quick fall in pressure, and looks for what tends to come before your migraines.

Can a migraine diary find triggers from the day before?

Yes — Bucket checks for things that come before a migraine anywhere from the same day to about three and a half days earlier, and shows a pattern only once it has turned up many separate times. It describes what tends to follow what; it never says what caused it.

Can I log migraine and my period in Bucket?

Yes. Log your period and Bucket counts everything for a little more in the days before it, as it does after a poor night or when you’re stressed or unwell.

Does Bucket track migraine medicines?

Yes. Bucket records each dose as taken, missed or skipped, with gentle reminders for scheduled medicines, so your appointment summary can say how often you took what.

Can I show my Bucket migraine diary to my GP?

Yes — Bucket writes a plain summary of what you’ve logged for a specific appointment, to send or print. You can also export everything as a file.

Who wrote this.

Bucket is made by Chris, who has a connective tissue disorder and hypermobility, gets migraines, and is working towards an MCAS diagnosis through the NHS — and built Bucket to find the delayed reactions that were impossible to spot alone. Read Chris’s note.

This page describes what Bucket does. It doesn’t explain migraine, and it isn’t medical advice. To read about migraine itself, see the NHS page.
